Irish Dance

Irish Dance ~ A New Beginning

Irish Dance has been a passion for me since I was 4 years old, and watched Riverdance for the first time.  I love dancing so much.  I’ve danced on and off throughout the years, and reached Preliminary Champion level.  Currently, I’m not actively dancing.  I quit again my Sophomore year of high school, after competing in the Orieachtas.  The Irish spirit is still forever with me.  Even my birthday is on St. Patrick’s day.  I often feel and express emotions through dance moves.  My favorite, when I’m excited, is the ‘double-up’.

Today, after chatting with my mom, taking up Irish dance again blew into, and became stuck in, my mind.  I am sooo excited!  I miss the music, feisiana, practices, socks, rhinestones, wigs, festivals, tiaras, etc, etc, etc.   More than I ever realized.  This is extremely important to me.  I feel the need to accomplish the goals I have had since I was a wee dancer.  I want to get to open champion level, attend a nationals and worlds, and win a sash.  This time around, I feel balanced, motivated and mature enough to stick with dancing and accomplish my goals.

I’m going to begin preparing myself, starting today.  My plan is to physically get in shape by continuing to play tennis, attend yoga classes, treadmill, walk and other assorted strengthening exercises for my core, ankles and legs.  I love to totally immerse myself in whatever I’m passionate about, so, I will probably, almost exclusively, listen to Irish dance music, watch dance movies, design solo dresses,  research stuff about Ireland, decorate with an Irish feel and probably a lot more things I couldn’t even possibly see coming.

My all-time favorite reel…
